After about a month of paperwork and about two years of focusing on my health and fitness, today I swore into the Ohio Army National Guard. Ever since I was in High School, serving my country was something that I always wanted to do and since I was close to the age cutoff, I had to make it happen!
This is the question that my parents and many others have asked me as this became more and more of a reality. In short, I hate the idea of having any regrets in life and I knew, if I didn’t do this now, then I would regret it in the future. If anyone knows me, they know I like a challenge and the military provides a way for me to grow stronger mentally and physically as I serve the country and community that I love.
So, what are you doing in the guard?
It is going to be a long process, but my goal is to work in Cyber Security or Signal (IT). That being said, I wont know 100% what I am doing until I finish OCS (Officer Candidate School) which will take about a year or so.
Time for some PT! I have about 6 months to get into shape and get up to speed on all things Army. If you see me out on the road running this winter give me a beep or a wave :). I leave for basic on June 1st and get back the Friday before school starts. We like to pack our schedules 🙂
I wanted to do a quick shout out to the people that have helped me get to this point. My wife Ashley, who has supported every crazy idea that I have had. Words truly can’t express how much she supports and inspires me.
My recruiter, Sgt. Weaver. This man worked his butt off to make this happen especially in the short window that we had to work with. We both learned a lot through the entire process.
Wish me luck!
